PURPOSE & INTENT
In coordination with Diné College’s mission, the Alumni Association’s purpose shall be to promote the College as the first tribal college in the United States of America with a strong history and reputation for excellence; to advance the general interests of the College and its alumni; and to provide an opportunity for alumni to participate in College affairs. The Diné College, formerly Navajo Community College, Alumni Association promotes the long-term welfare of the College and serves as a support system through which all college alumni and community members can preserve Diné College’s unique mission.
EXPECTATIONS
The Diné College Alumni Association is a volunteer-driven organization led by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our success depends on the personal commitment and active involvement of the individuals who embrace the privilege to serve and the responsibility to lead. Board members agree to support Diné College and the Alumni Association, to uphold the association mission and to meet the responsibilities and expectations detailed below:
• Abide by the Diné College Alumni Association bylaws
• Advocacy and involvement as a College ambassador
• Build positive awareness of the successes of Diné College, the College’s mission, strategies, programs, strengths and needs
• Work with the Development & Alumni Officer to address issues impacting or of interest to alumni
QUALIFICATIONS
We seek talented leaders to serve on the Association’s Board of Directors to represent our alumni population and to increase alumni engagement and support the College’s strategic goals. Officers should meet several of these qualifications:
• Be a Diné College or Navajo Community College alumnus/na
• Have graduated with a certificate, associates degree, or bachelor degree from Diné College or Navajo Community College
• Availability and interest in serving and engaging in Alumni Association activities and board meetings
• Willing to engage in board service, fundraising, event planning, etc.
• Willing to identify and recruit alumni members, volunteers, potential donors and sponsors
• Willing to engage students and other fellow alumni
• Be an advocate for Diné College
